Hampi (3)
Hampi is the ruined city of the Vijayanager empire. It was called the City Of Victory and the Vijayanagar rulers held of Muslim kings from the north for many years.
On the way there we stopped at Chitradurga on the way from Bangalore to Hampi. It is about at the halfway point between the two places. It is a fort that was built by the vijayanagar kings and later was taken over by the Tipu Sultan.
Hampi is amazing. It has many temples and palace ruins. Here is a link that lists the key sights (http://www.karnataka.com/tourism/hampi/). We spent two days in Hampi, We hired a guide named Hanuman who showed us the temples and statues. We took a Coracle ride down the river. We also had a snack at the Mango Tree, a restaurant on the banks of the river under a Mango tree (of course)
After Hampi, I took Jeri to the airport for her flight home. The next 7 weeks are going to be lonely.
